Hi Guest,
General FAQ     |     Classified Postings FAQ     |     Job Postings FAQ
  • Where is my post?
  • If you have posted and ad but can not find it on the site, please consider the following:
  • Most ads will appear 15 minutes after posting. Some ads may require review by granted.com (adult, massage, therapeutic, spa, etc.) and may take longer.
  • Refresh/reload the page where you posted your ad.
  • Make sure you are currently looking in the correct category where you posted your ad. (For example: furniture sale by dealer vs. furniture sale by owner or skilled trade job vs. skilled trade services.)
  • Double check you are looking under the correct date. Your ad will be posted under the date when you submitted your ad.
  • If you are searching for your ad using a key word search, double check your ad uses the keyword you are using.
  • Finally, your post may have been expired or it may have been removed by flagging.
  • Where is my self publishing email?
  • If you have not received the email to publish your post here are a few possibilities why:
  • Make sure you check your junk/spam folder
  • If you are using a free email source, i.e. Hotmail, GMAIL, Yahoo, make sure you have not exceeded your storage limit.
  • Some email providers and ISP’s use email spam filters, make sure you check your email provider and add granted.com to your list as to not be sent to your spam folder.
  • Network problems and internet connections between ISP providers can cause email transmissions to be delayed for several hours, we suggest having lunch, taking a break, going for a run, whatever you have to do to pass the time.
  • You can always go the old fashioned route and simply have your email resent.
  • If that still doesn’t work, try using a different email provider.
  • Why was my posting deleted?
  • There are four possible reasons why your post was deleted:
  • Your post was expired
  • Your post was flagged for removal by a granted.com user.
  • Your post was removed by granted.com staff
  • You deleted your post yourself.
  • What is “phishing?â€?
  • Phishing refers to the fraudulent criminal act of acquiring usernames, passwords, and other confidential information. Basically what this means is, people receive an email from what they believe to be a trustworthy site, (i.e. granted.com), then they disclose their confidential information to a third party source who may intend to use the valuable information for fraudulent purposes.
  • Avoid phishing scams!! Read the following tips to help protect you against phishing.
  • Be aware of any emails you receive from granted.com that are blank, generic, or insist on you providing personal information.
  • Granted does not contact you unless you request to be contacted. For example, when you post an ad you will receive a confirmation email. Or if you change your password you will receive an email requesting you confirm the change, and directions on how to do so.
  • Avoid clicking on any links in any email that anyone sends you.
  • Check the URL in your browser of the website you are trying to reach.
  • Do not respond to and delete any emails you suspect may be phishing scams.
  • If you discover ads in your account that you did not post, delete the ad and change your password.
  • Examples of Phishing Schemes:
  • Users may receive emails from granted.com that appear to be from granted.com. These emails may contain links to websites posing as granted.com; they may seem threatening in nature or may indicate that there are problems with users' accounts or credit cards.
  • Example 1:
  • "Important Information: Granted.com TERMS OF USE: We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to change, modify or otherwise alter your account at any time. Therefore your account has been blocked. To avoid deletion of your Granted.com account please Sign In by clicking here: fakewebpagethatisntgranted.com"
  • "Attention!! Read Carefully! Your Granted account is temporarily suspended.
-> Essentially you posted the same item to multiple cities or categories, or more than once in 48 hours .
-> Your post contains a link or URL to a commercial website or auction.
-> Your ad appears to contain a phone #, email address, or URL . Therefore, if you are the rightful account holder, click on the link below to log into your account for verification. fakewebpagethatisntgranted.com"
  • Notice the website link redirects you to a site that is completely unrelated to granted.com. Remember to never click the links and if it is in an email immediately report spam and delete the email from your inbox. Always log into your account from www.granted.com, never from an outside source.
  • Example 2: Users on granted may receive phishing emails in response to their Granted ad.
  • "Thank you for getting back with me I'm very interested in this but before I buy it I need to know if its the same one I'm looking for because I can't afford another mistake Please check out this video here I uploaded, which i am looking to buy WATCH VIDEO [link to fake scam webpage If its the same one I will be there today to buy it"
  • "I got your e-mail for the apartment. I apologize I couldn't answer your e-mail faster, but I have just been overwhelmed with all the responses. To set up a showing please forward me your yearly income and an updated credit score. Make sure that your credit score is recent (at least 1 week old). Use the link below to check your credit score if you are not sure of what it is. This score is up to date and free. fakewebpagethatisntgranted.com Send me this info ASAP, this way I can set up a show date. Thank you"
  • Notice the emails contain links to web pages that are completely unrelated, NEVER click these links. Do not log into your Granted account from an outside webpage; only do so through www.granted.com
  • Example 3: : Users on Granted may receive a false email, purportedly from a staff member or Granted official, telling them that they won a contest for a free iPhone, washer/dryer, or other valuable item. These false emails may try to collect users' personal information.
  • ""Attention Granted User, My name is John Sanchez, CEO of Granted. We have recently partnered up with Apple for a one-time promotional event and on June 7th, 2010 (today), we are giving away free Apple iPads to randomly selected people who have posted an ad in the "Housing" section of Grated. • Where can I advertise my service?
  • You can place your ad for services offered ONLY under “services offeredâ€?
  • Services ads submitted to categories outside of "services offered" are subject to removal.
  • Email rejected-non generic DNS
  • What to do if your email is being rejected by Granted’s server.
  • Services ads submitted to categories outside of "services offered" are subject to removal.
  • Is your email being rejected by our servers with an email like this?:
  • 554 5.7.1 : Client host rejected: please_use_SMTP_relay_of_your_isp,_or_setup_non-generic_dns.
  • If you answered yes here’s the scoop:
  • In an effort to curb abuse of our email servers and limit the amount of spam inflicted upon our users, Granted does not accept email from computers with dynamically assigned IP addresses, or hosts that have generic DNS setup.
  • So, if you received the last message, don’t freak out! Here’s what you do:
  • The easiest solution is to use the mail server of your ISP to relay your email, as they almost certainly have their DNS setup properly. If you're not sure how to setup your mail client to do this, please contact your ISP.
  • If you have a static IP address and want to be able to send email through your own mail server, you will need to contact your ISP and have them setup non-generic DNS for your IP address.
  • If these suggestions don’t work, some people find it easier to use some of the many free web based email networks.
  • What is generic DNS?
  • When you make a connection to our servers, we use your IP address to perform a reverse lookup to find the name listed for your computer in the domain name service. We consider you to have generic DNS if the hostname returned contains:
  • An IP address
  • The words pool, dhcp, dynamic
  • The words dsl, ppp, pub
  • The words server or host
  • The words dial or dialup
  • The words cable or modem
  • The words host or cust/customer
  • Any other indicators that the hostname is not specific to you or your organization
  • How do I check if I have a generic DNS?
  • While the specifics differ by operating system, the basic procedure is the same:
  • retrieve your machine's IP address
  • perform a DNS query to look up the PTR record for that IP address
  • While the specifics differ by operating system, the basic procedure is the same:
  • Note that you have to specify your IP address for purposes of this query in reverse. For example, if your IP address is A.B.C.D, you need to look up D.C.B.A.in-addr.arpa. instead
  • Here are some examples:
  • Windows
  • C:\Documents and
    Settings\username>nslookup
    Default Server: my.nameserver.com
will be different on your machine,
    don't panic! Address: 192.168.168.1 same here > set query=ptr > 208.236.82.208.in-addr.arpa. 208.236.82.208.in-addr.arpa PTR www.granted.com
  • You can see the result of the lookup after the letters PTR above.
  • Linux, MacOS, other UNIX
  • Open Terminal.app and type the following into the shell:
  • $ dig +short 208.236.82.208.in-addr.arpa. ptr www.granted.com.
  • The results of the lookup are shown immediately after the command.
  • Still not working?
  • If you have a static IP address, run a mail server and do not have generic DNS, and are continuing to run into trouble, please send email to postmaster@granted.com. Be sure to include the complete headers, rejection message, and output of your DNS lookup (as shown in the above examples) so that we're able to determine exactly what is happening.
  • Email rejected: rDNS failure
  • What to do if your email is being rejected because rDNS/DNS validation failed
  • If you see this type of rejected email message:
  • host mxi5p.granted.com [208.82.236.165]: 554 5.7.1:Client host rejected:rDNS/DNS_validation_failed._Please_setup_matching_DNS_and_rDNS_records:_ http://bind8nt.meiway.com/itsaDNSmess.cfm
  • This means there is a problem with the DNS setup of the computer that is trying to send email to granted.com email addresses. One way to (almost always) avoid the entire DNS configuration issue is to have your email program relay/send your email through the mail server of your ISP.
  • Contact your ISP provider:
  • Ask them to help you configure your email program to relay through their mail server
  • Ask them to help you setup your DNS properly
  • Feel free to point them to this page, and be sure to have a copy of the exact error/reject message for them.
  • Unfortunately, if you are receiving this error/reject message, there is nothing we at Granted can do to fix it. Please refer to our help desk for more questions. Good Luck!
  • Okay for those that are confused about all this ISP and DNS talk here is a quick explanation. I hope this helps!
  • Keep in mind that dealing with DNS and ISP are not for the less than computer savvy individual, if you know about computers this is fine, if you are like most and only know the basics, please don’t go messing around with your DNS and call your ISP provider for assistance.
  • DNS is short for Domain Name System. It's the way that IP addresses get converted to hostnames, and hostnames get converted to IP addresses. It's used all over the Internet.
  • When a mail server attempts to send email to granted.com email addresses, in order to prevent as much spam as possible, we try to be sure that the server is who it says it is. Validating that DNS is setup properly for the connecting server is a great way to stop a lot of spam because spammers tend to employ all sorts of tricks and non-standard/broken configurations in order to hide their identity.
  • One of the first things that happens when a computer attempts to deliver email to Granted.com is that our server looks at the IP address of that computer and tries to convert that IP address to a hostname, by doing what is called a Reverse DNS Lookup. A DNS tool called "host" is being used to provide the following examples.
  • pluto:~ user$ host 192.168.123.231 192.168.123.231.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer samplehost.example.com.
  • The next thing that happens is that we try to convert that hostname (samplehost.example.com) back into an IP address to see if it matches (192.168.123.231):
  • pluto:~ user$ host samplehost.example.com
    samplehost.example.com has address 192.168.123.231
  • When the reverse and forward lookups match up properly, the connecting computer has been validated to continue to talk to our mail server. However, when they don't match up, or any part of that validation fails, you will get the rDNS/DNS failure message.

  • There can be several things that will cause failures:

  • Reverse DNS is not setup for your IP address
  • Forward DNS is not setup for the hostname that is returned by the reverse DNS query
  • Forward DNS is setup for the hostname that is returned by the reverse DNS query, but the IP address it returns does not match the IP address of the computer that is attempting to connect to our mail servers.

The solution is to make sure your rDNS and DNS are setup properly. Explaining how to do that is beyond that scope of this document, but more information can be found at:

Other Job posting questions

  • Once I submitted a job post how long will it take to appear on the site?
  • Your ad will appear 10-20 minutes after posting
  • To see your post, go to the category for your job. You may need to REFRESH or RELOAD the page if your job does not appear in your browser --- the refresh/reload option is usually located in the bar at the top of your browser.
  • Any special consideration for recruiters?
  • Here at granted.com we understand the hardships involved in finding a job and finding the right employees. In the interest of good relations, we have a few basic guidelines that must be followed by recruiters who post jobs:
  • Please identify yourself and you must include this information in your posting
  • No resume fishing, no bait and switch, and no other dishonest or misleading tactics. We're here to help each other out!
  • Please do not post in the resumes category -- direct principals only.
  • Can I post a job fair?
  • No, Granted does not permit posting for job fairs or open houses.
  • Can I include a link in my post about our organization’s job page?
  • That's fine with us, as long as the link does not lead to a list of all jobs available in your organization. You can link to your home page, or to a page where folks can apply to the same job you have advertised on Granted.
  • Can I post a job fair?
  • Yes, but please use HTML sparingly. We don't try to wrap HTML around your URLs if we see HTML tags including . We just pass through your HTML unchanged.
  • Please use only the HTML code that you would use in the body of a document, no title or anything like that. Also, we can't support JavaScript, Flash, applets or other dynamic content.
  • * Note: If you use HTML in any part of your posting you must use it throughout the entire body of your posting.
  • I have three positions to fill, can I post all three in one ad?
  • We ask that you include only one job description per job post. As a rule of thumb, job titles should be singular, not plural.
  • Do you accept credit cards?
  • Yes, you can use American Express, MasterCard, or Visa. In most cases, you will enter your credit card information at the end of the posting process, and your card will be charged immediately.
  • If you use a Granted account to post your job, we will send you an invoice and you can use your credit card to pay your invoice. Once you receive your invoice, go to our online invoice payment form. You'll need the invoice number and the original billing email address (this information is on your email or paper invoice). You can use this form to pay for any old invoices that you may have as well.
  • If you have any questions, please contact us:

A note about security:

Our online credit card payment forms have been encrypted using industry standard 128-bit Secure Socket Layer encryption. Our systems relay your credit card information (using the same encryption method) to Secure-Bank, which charges your account. We do not keep any of your credit card information on our servers.

  • What kind of job posts do you not accept?
  • Our policies prohibit the following types of listings on our site:
  • Posting of any franchise, pyramid scheme, multi-level marketing, "club membership", distributorship or sales representative agency arrangement or other business opportunity which requires an up front or periodic payment, requires recruitment of other members, sub-distributors or sub-agents, or pays commissions only (except for postings that make clear that the available job pays commission only and clearly describes the product or service that the job seeker would be selling, in which case such postings may be permissible).
  • Does Granted charge for focus group opportunities?
  • We ask that you post the job in the general geographic location of where the position is located. The idea is that if someone is looking for a position in Seattle, they would visit the Granted Seattle site.
  • This local approach is what Granted is all about.
  • If location is not relevant to the position, please choose just one city site.

  • Job Title - This field should contain the name of the position. The job title of your post will appear on our web index pages and in our subscriber's inboxes.
  • Job Description, Salary, etc. - Provide detail about the position and the organization
  • Optional fields

  • We charge $75 per job post in the S.F. Bay Area, and $25 per job post in New York and Los Angeles. If a job is posted in multiple categories, you will be charged for each post in each category. If you have purchased a block of job posts, then each job post will be deducted from the balance of your block purchase. The balance on your block will be visible each time you log into your account.
  • Block Accounts:
  • How does it work?
  • Basically once you request a block of postings you will be sent an invoice, the amount depending upon what size block you decide on. Your account will immediately be credited with the number of postings you've purchased and the balance will be shown each time you log in to your account. Each job post that you submit will be deducted from this balance until it reaches zero. You have an unlimited amount of time to use the block and it is not subject to any price increases that may occur before the balance of your block has been fully used.
  • A few things to know about block accounts:
  • Savings correspond to the size of the block purchased
  • Discounts are available only for job ads in the S.F. Bay Area and brokered housing ads in New York City
  • Payment for block purchases must be made in advance
  • There is no time limit for the usage of your block
  • One deduction from your block equals one job posted in one category
  • As you use your block the balance of postings will be visible each time that you log into your account
  • Once you have purchased a block it is not subject to any price increases that occur before the balance reaches zero.
